Signs It’s Time To Call An Emergency Plumber

Plumbing emergencies can happen at any time. Sometimes, the problem can be resolved without professional help. But, if you’re hesitating about making a call, a simple plumbing inconvenience can quickly turn into a major catastrophe.

Here are some signs it’s time to call an emergency plumber (and potentially avoid a flooded house!).

Burst Pipes

Gushing water coming from places it shouldn’t is a clear sign that you’re in need of an emergency plumber.

This can happen due to freezing temperatures, corrosion or excessive water pressure. Whatever the cause, it can result in significant damage to your home if not dealt with immediately. If you see water coming from your pipes, like under the kitchen sink, around your toilet or from the ceiling, you probably have a leak. Shut off the main water supply and call an emergency plumber who will assess and then repair the damage.

Has your shower pressure dramatically reduced, yet your sink has more power than ever? Changes in water pressure could suggest a leak or blockage in one of your pipes. You should also call a plumber in this situation.

Clogged Drains

We’ve all been there, whether it’s a sink that won’t drain properly or a toilet which just won’t flush, it can be a long and unpleasant job to unblock. Sometimes this can be resolved with a bit of elbow grease and a trusty plunger, but if not, then this could indicate a bigger blockage.

If you have slow-moving or backed up drains, then it’s time to call an emergency plumber before the issue becomes much worse.

Funny Sounds/Smells

Strange sounds or smells coming from your drains and plumbing fixtures can mean there’s an underlying issue. Bad smells coming from your drains could be because of a break in the sewer line or sewage backup, either way it’s not going to be pleasant! If you suspect you have a break in the sewer line, you need to call an emergency plumber ASAP.

Pipes aren’t supposed to be noisy. In some cases, it is just down to old age, but if you are constantly hearing strange banging or clanging noises this can be because of water pressure problems or other issues elsewhere in the pipeline. In this case, it’s best to call an emergency plumber too, to get to the bottom of the issue.

Plumbing emergencies can happen to anyone and when we least expect them. Knowing the signs can help prevent serious damage, saving you time, money and stress. If you notice any of these signs in your home, don’t hesitate to pick up the phone. Call 0208 676 7878 to get in touch with us.
